The Center for Nonprofit Advancement and the DC Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE) are partnering to launch the Small & Accessible Sustainability (SAS) Subgrants program.
This innovative initiative is designed to advance the District’s sustainability, zero waste, donation and reuse, and urban agriculture goals while directly supporting small, new, and historically-excluded (SNHE) organizations.
Empowering community-based sustainability
Through this partnership, the Center anticipates awarding 10–15 subgrants ranging from $5,000–$20,000 each, with total funding anticipated at $110,000.
The SAS Subgrants program will enable community-rooted organizations to implement creative, local projects through two tracks:
Donation & Reuse—supporting efforts to reduce waste and extend the life of goods through community-based donation and recycling initiatives, including donation sites, pickup services and food rescue logistics.
Urban Agriculture—supporting efforts that strengthen local food systems, including sustainable food production, community gardens and composting projects.
While all SNHE organizations located in the District are encouraged to apply, additional consideration will be given to projects rooted in Wards 7 and 8, where resources are often limited and innovation and impact are strong.
