Introduction to Board Governance

Course Objective: Learn about key governance roles and expectations of board members.

Serving on a nonprofit board brings with it a number of responsibilities and official duties. This session provides an introduction to the key governance roles and expectations of board members, officers, and chairs. Topics to be covered include:

• Legal Duties of Board Members
• Mission and Strategy
• Finance and Operations
• Working with Staff and Volunteers

This course is designed as an introduction or a refresher to board governance. The take-away for this course is to have a clear understanding of board members’ roles and responsibilities as leaders of a nonprofit organization.
