A Celebration of Excellence and ServiceOn Thursday, October 29, nearly 300 from the region’s nonprofit, foundation, legislative and business communities came together to celebrate the accomplishments of the Greater Washington region’s nonprofit sector and the Center for Nonprofit Advancement’s 30 years of service to nonprofits.
In her keynote address on the charity of giving, Debbi Jarvis, Pepco Holdings, Inc. Vice President of Communications, acknowledged that "it has been a tough year and the need is greater than ever before. Nonprofits continue to survive. Clearly, when the Center is successful in strengthening nonprofits, nonprofits are successful in strengthening the community." The Center’s 2009 Annual Meeting and 30th Anniversary Celebration included presentation of the Gelman, Rosenberg & Freedman 2009 EXCEL Award, the Phyllis Campbell Newsome Public Policy Leadership Award and the Center for Nonprofit Advancement Award.
The following executive directors were named Honorable Mention recipients for the Gelman, Rosenberg & Freedman 2009 EXCEL Award:
