Center Honors Local Officials for Dedication to Nonprofit Community

2011 Phyllis Campbell Newsome Public Policy Leadership Award

The Center for Nonprofit Advancement honored an outstanding group of public servants for their dedication to the region's nonprofit community at the 2011 Annual Celebration on October 18.

Elected officials from the District of Columbia, Northern Virginia and Montgomery and Prince George’s counties in Maryland were recognized with the 2011 Phyllis Campbell Newsome Public Policy Leadership Award. Honorees included:

  • Bruce Adams, Director, Montgomery County Office of Community Partnerships
  • The Fairfax County Office of Public Private Partnerships
  • The Honorable Vincent Gray, Mayor, The District of Columbia
  • The Honorable Andrea Harrison, Prince George’s County Council

“Public private partnerships are hallmark to the success of all communities,” said Center CEO Glen O’Gilvie.  “This year’s winners have gracefully joined the ranks of an elite group of dedicated public officials. We are proud to recognize the stellar leadership of our 2011 winners and to present their awards on behalf of our member nonprofits.”

This award was created to highlight the work of four elected or non-elected officials who have gone above and beyond in partnership with the nonprofit sector to ensure more vibrant communities.  One official is recognized from each of the jurisdictions the Center supports including the District of Columbia, Northern Virginia and Montgomery and Prince George’s counties in Maryland.

The Phyllis Campbell Newsome Public Policy Leadership Award was named in honor of the Center for Nonprofit Advancement’s former director of advocacy and community relations after her untimely passing in 2003.
