Up to two organizations from each category will be selected as honorable mention recipients to receive:

2012 Board Leadership AwardThe Board Leadership Award was developed by the Center for Nonprofit Advancement with support from area experts to recognize and spotlight outstanding leadership from Boards of Directors of Washington-area nonprofit organizations. The award recognizes the role that boards play in building and sustaining successful organizations by executing their fiduciary and leadership responsibilities—assuring that they are well led, well supported and responsive to the people and communities they serve.

This award increases the profile of recognized organizations while inspiring stronger board leadership throughout the Greater Washington nonprofit sector, much like The Washington Post Award for Excellence in Nonprofit Management, a program of the Center for 18 years.

The award winning organizations must demonstrate not only a steady track record of good governance and excellent leadership, but a significant improvement and notable achievements of their organization, as a result.

"We are pleased with the outcomes this high achievement has already realized for the nonprofit sector," said Center CEO Glen O’Gilvie. "This year we will compile additional strategies and innovative practices from the competition, which will inspire and motivate excellence in board governance for years to come."

This award is a program of the Center for Nonprofit Advancement, sponsored by Reznick Group and BoardSource.
