The Washington Post 2011 Award for Excellence in Nonprofit Management

The Washington Post, in partnership with the Center for Nonprofit Advancement, on November 9 announced the call for applications for The Washington Post 2011 Award for Excellence in Nonprofit Management. The application deadline for the 2011 competition was January 7, 2011.

Four 2011 finalist organizations shared their winning ideas and best practices with the community during the annual Best Practices Celebration on May 25 at The Washington Post. Following the best practices session, The Washington Post and the Center announced Horton’s Kids as the 2011 recipient of The Washington Post Award for Excellence in Nonprofit Management.

A $10,000 grant was presented to the winning organization.  The Executive Director also received a scholarship to Georgetown University’s Center for Public and Nonprofit Leadership Certificate Program and the organization will be recognized as the 2011 winner in The Washington Post. Three honorable mentions were presented with a $2,500 cash grant award. The award winner and honorable mention recipients also received access to the Core Capacity Assessment Tool compliments of TCC Group. All applicants received feedback on their management practices from the Award Selection Committee.

In its 17th year of competition, The Washington Post Award for Excellence in Nonprofit Management rewards management competence, recognizes innovation and promotes sustainable best practices that lead to excellence in nonprofit management.  The 2010 recipient of The Washington Post Award was PHILLIPS Programs for Children and Families, which serves the needs of individuals with emotional and behavioral problems and their families throughout Greater Washington.

The competition is open to any 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in the Washington metropolitan area. A full list of past recipients is available online.

This award program is a program of the Center for Nonprofit Advancement, sponsored by The Washington Post, cosponsored by RAFFA, P.C., with additional support by the Center for Nonprofit Advancement's Benefits Trust and Georgetown University’s Center for Public and Nonprofit Leadership’s Nonprofit Executive Certificate Program.
