The Gelman, Rosenberg & Freedman 2012 EXCEL Award
Competition for the Center for Nonprofit Advancement's Gelman, Rosenberg & Freedman 2012 EXCEL Award opened on June 18, 2012. Nominations were accepted through July 13. The 2012 Award finalists were announced on September 6. Our 2012 honorees were announced and recognized at the Center's Annual Celebration on October 17. This competitive award spotlights up to three outstanding nonprofit leaders in the Washington metropolitan area for outstanding nonprofit chief executive leadership.
Each winner receives a $5,000 professional development account to use in their role as an organization's chief executive. In addition, the winning organization receives a $2,000 grant to provide professional development opportunities for their staff.
Candidates must show leadership excellence in the areas of innovation, motivation, community building, inclusiveness/diversity and/or ethical integrity. The competition is open to any chief executive of a Washington-area nonprofit organization with an annual budget of $10 million and under.
Any individual meeting the competition's requirements may be nominated. There is no fee to participate. Board members, staff members, volunteers, clients or community members can nominate chief executives.
2012 is the eighth year for this competition, and the seventh year that the Bethesda-based accounting firm Gelman, Rosenberg & Freedman has sponsored the award.
